From Sunday evening, March 19, through Tuesday evening, March 21, 2006, Concordia University’s Peace and Conflict Resolution office will host a series of events around the theme of “Israeli and Palestinian Historical Narratives.”
Two speakers from Washington, D.C., a Jewish-American (Paul Scham) and an Arab-American (Khalil Jahshan), both with extensive experience within and between their two communities, will give lectures and lead discussions intended to provide greater understanding of the two narratives and their importance in peace-making. Several films on aspects of the conflict, likewise followed by discussions, will also be screened. Arab, Muslim, Jewish, and Middle Eastern groups, both campus-based and off-campus are invited to participate.
The speakers will also participate in a number of courses relevant to this material. The objective is to bring different perspectives to greater understanding of the conflict, both within the general Concordia community and between those who identify with one side or the other, and help to create a dialogue between the sides, thus furthering the goal of resolving some of the many layers of this conflict.
